      Williams's latest (following The Wife Before) is a fast-paced, psychological trip with a climax that will shock the most voracious readers. Adira Smith-Cortez has it all. Her women's clothing company is thriving, putting millions into her bank account. Her husband, Gabriel, and her mansion are both fully Instagram-worthy. Everything's coming up Adira--until it isn't. Gabriel starts acting dodgy, and Adira follows him to not one, but two mistresses. Suddenly, Adira's perfect life is crashing. When one mistress approaches Adira with a plan to take care of the other and get Gabriel back, Adira fights for control and the comforts of her life. What she doesn't realize is that control was never hers to begin with. The changing POV provides a lens into her murky past and sheds much-needed light on why her future is playing out the way it is.       Williams (The Wife Before, 2022) returns with another original and surprising thriller. Potential readers should pay attention to the trigger warnings Williams notes. Adira is a successful and wealthy businesswoman, but she has a big problem. Her husband, Gabriel, has been cheating. After following him, she's witnessed his indiscretions, but she hasn't figured out what to do about them yet. Then she meets Jocelyn, a sophisticated bar owner who has also been sleeping with Gabriel. Worse, Gabriel doesn't even seem to notice Adira's rage. When Jocelyn offers to help Adira take revenge on her husband, Adira is skeptical but grateful for any support she can get. The women learn more about each other while taking their spying to the next level. Soon, the idea of murder has passed through both of their minds--but will they go that far? Dovetailed in between are short vignettes from someone's past that remain a mystery until the end. Fans of The Wife between Us (2018), by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, won't be able to put this one down.
