Everyone's favorite space rovers are back, this time facing a watery rescue operation!

Space explorers Rover and Speck are on a dangerous new mission: visiting Unexplored Planet K2-18b. It doesn't take them long to encounter a frightening inhabitant - a blubber beast - or to find themselves inside its mouth! Luckily, they manage to escape unharmed. But when they learn that a local creature has been swallowed by the Beast, they know they alone can rescue him. They'll have to go back in! Can they succeed? Or will they - gulp - get swallowed, too?

The fun is out of this world (even though they're inside the belly of the Beast!) in this hilarious second book in the Rover and Speck series!

Grades 1-4 It's time for another adventure with Speck, an eager solar robot, and its buddy Rover, a planetary exploration vehicle. Together, they eject from their rocket ship and land on Unexplored Planet K2-18b, where they befriend some local creatures called spikey-spikes and selflessly agree to swim into the belly of an island-sized, tri-horned, sharp-toothed sea creature called a Blubber Beast to find and rescue a spikey-spike who has been swallowed. As is often the case with brave explorers, Rover and Speck make many interesting discoveries along the way. The digitally rendered artwork uses bright colors to create a vibrant waterscape with fictional monsters encountered by our adorable robot heroes. The series is full of giggles, but it's also whip-smart in its language about exoplanets and gyroscopic stabilizers, and it brilliantly incorporates fun science facts about everything from how water density affects the speed of sound vibrations to the deep-sea defenses of a sea cucumber. Its entertaining back matter includes Mad Libs, spot the difference, and creature features. As a quick and entertaining science read for early graphic novel lovers, it is speck-tacular.
