A struggling event planner and a sinfully hot astronaut must decide if their fake relationship is worth a shot at happily-ever-after, in this starry debut.
Risk-averse event planner Amerie Price is jobless, newly single, and about to lose her apartment. With no choice but to gamble on her shaky start-up, the last thing she needed was to run into her smug ex and his new, less complicated girlfriend at Amerie's favorite coffee shop. Panicked, she pretends to be dating the annoyingly sexy man she met by spilling Americano all over his abs. He plays along—for a price.
Half the single men in Houston claim to be astronauts, but Vincent Rogers turns out to be the real deal. What started as a one-off lie morphs into a plan: for the three months leading up to his mission, Amerie will play Vincent's doting partner in front of his loving but overly invested family. In exchange, she gets a rent-free room in his house and can put every penny toward her struggling business.
What Amerie doesn't plan for is Vincent's gravitational pull. While her mind tells her a future with this astronaut is too unpredictable, her heart says he's exactly what she needs. As their time together counts down, Amerie must decide if she'll settle for the safe life—or shoot for the stars.

Fake dating and Black joy animate Easton’s adorable debut. Houston event planner Amerie “Mimi” Price feels like her life is falling apart when she is fired from her job and left without a place to live after her boyfriend, Derrick, dumps her. Unwilling to burden her aging parents with her financial hardships, she doesn’t know where to turn. An unexpected solution arises after she spills coffee on Vincent Rogers, a quick-witted astronaut and all-around good guy. When this disastrous first meeting is interrupted by Derrick and his new girlfriend, a panicked Mimi lies and claims Vincent is her new man. Vincent goes along with the charade and asks Mimi if she wouldn’t mind keeping it up in front of his overly invested family in the months leading to his upcoming space mission. In exchange, Mimi can move in to the spare room in Vincent’s house. This fake dating scheme morphs into a cute, chuckle-worthy slow-burn romance. Easton takes her time building comfort and trust between the leads, making their love affair feel cozy and grounded, even as the plot around them moves at a fast clip. Easton is a writer to watch. Agent: Jem Chambers-Black, Andrea Brown Literary Agency.

Angel Pean's nuanced narration is superb in this playful romance. Amerie is jobless, single, and worried about her mom's health. She hits a new low when she pretends to be dating a sexy stranger to save face when she runs into her ex. The stranger, Vincent, realizes he and Amerie could both benefit from fake dating each other. Vincent, a workaholic astronaut, is desperate to appease his family's desire for him to find love. Amerie could save money for her fledgling business by moving in with Vincent until he leaves on his space mission. The attractive arrangement cultivates a real romantic connection. Pean's range is showcased in Vincent's deep timbre and Amerie's bestie's high girly voice. Playful insults contrast with murmurs and sighs during sensual moments. Easton charms with her lively debut, a slow-burn, fake-dating roommate romance. At the center of the story are Vincent Rogers, a hotshot NASA astronaut, and Amerie Price, a struggling event planner who is recently single, jobless, and in need of a place to stay. A meet-cute in a coffee shop, with Amerie spilling coffee on undeniably hot fellow customer Vincent, provides Amerie with the chance to enlist his support in pretending to be her boyfriend in front of her ex. As it turns out, Vincent could also use Amerie's help to pose as his girlfriend in front of his family. A mutually beneficial and platonic--at least to start--relationship is born. The story is set in Houston, providing a fascinating peek into the space industry, combined with lots of family drama. Narrator Angel Pean captures the chemistry between the two leads, including some steamy open-door scenes. VERDICT Contemporary romance readers and fans of Denise Williams and Kristina Forest will be rooting for these two to get their HEA from the very start. This engagingly narrated debut will make an excellent addition to any audio romance collection.--Shannon O'Connor
